How meteorological Department collect Data of weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) uses a variety of methods to collect weather data, including:

Surface Weather Stations: These stations are located across India and measure surface weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, and atmospheric pressure.

Radars: Weather radars use electromagnetic waves to detect and track precipitation, such as rain, snow, and hail. They can also be used to estimate the intensity of precipitation.

Satellites: Meteorological satellites orbit the Earth and provide images and data on various weather phenomena, such as cloud cover, sea surface temperature, and wind patterns.

Radiosondes: These are weather balloons carrying instruments that measure temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, and atmospheric pressure at different altitudes.

Aircraft Observations: Aircraft flying at different altitudes can also provide valuable weather data.

Citizen Science: The IMD also encourages citizen science initiatives, where volunteers can contribute weather observations using their own instruments.

The data collected from these various sources is then processed and analyzed by the IMD to produce weather forecasts and warnings.
